Text: Hattie Elizabeth (MacVicar) Spagnolatti 86, SYDNEY- Beloved wife, mom and nan passed away peacefully early Monday morning April 11, 2005, at the MacGillivary Guest Home. Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Broughton, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Ella (MacDonald) MacVicar. Hattie grew up in Sydney and moved to Lingan Road when she married Louis Spagnolatti. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer parish. Hattie loved company and was always welcoming family, friends and travellers with a hot cup of tea, a sweet and good conversation. There were no strangers at mom's/nan's loving home. Mom loved a good chat, a great card game, mystery shows and hugs and kisses. She made the best buns, jam squares, Rice Krispie treats and potato pancakes. Hattie and Louis were married for 62 years, raised four children and were blessed with a large extended family. She is survived by her husband, Louis; children, Jim (Shirley), Sydney, Donald (Brenda), Lower Sackville, and Isabelle (Greg) McPhee, Sydney; grandchildren, Melvin, Ann Marie Gill (Clarence), Halifax, Chris (Maureen), Michelle, Jason, Tiana and Kael; greatgrandchildren, Reanna, Scott (Angela) and Angie and greatgreat grandchildren, Alexandria and Dylan; brother, Edward (Bessie); many loving nieces and nephews and dearest friend, Louise. Besides her parents, Hattie was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth 'Betty,' brothers, Angus and George and sisters, Isabelle and Rhea. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held at Holy Redeemer Church,Thursday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brook Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MacGillivray Guest Home or Palliative Care.
