UPDATE - AUGUST 18TH, 1999 Hey everyone, as you must already know the site has moved again! I've moved everything from the old web server to my server at work. And the domain name has changed again as well, but this should be the last time. The Chasing Amy:Special Edition DVD cover seen below is not in fact the real cover. It's actually just a cover the DVDepot made themselves. Pretty sweet though, maybe Alliance/Mirimax will end up using it! UPDATE - AUGUST 13TH, 1999
Pre-order Chasing Amy:Special Edition DVD over at the DVDepot!
The Mallrats:Special Edition DVD is FINALLY released in Canada today...and my DVD player crapped out on me Saturday! So now I have to wait another week before watching it. Couple more classic skate pics for ya today. Thanks to RiSE for digging these out of his closet for all to see! Check out his web site at http://web.p3.net/~rise. UPDATE - AUGUST 9TH, 1999
Jason Lee considers himself lucky to be sitting in front of me at Canter's deli, crunching on a salad. Only yesterday, he and a fishing buddy were stuck for hours in the mountains outside of L.A. when their SUV went off the road. "It was definitely scary," he tells me, "but I don't think it would have gotten to the point where my friend and I had to eat each other." Lee's hiply sardonic, hang-loose style set him refreshingly apart from the glam troop of young actors emerging from hit TV shows. He does, in fact, come from somewhere else entirely -- he's a former professional skateboarder who got into acting on a whim. "I was curious about movies," he says, "the way you might wonder what life in the army's like." Lee's breakthrough performance two years ago as the caustic but charming comic book artist in Kevin Smith's indie favorite Chasing Amy so impressed Lawrence Kasdan that the writer/director wrote the role of a computer-software genius specifically for him in the ensemble comedy Mumford. The actor's current hirsute state -- shaggy hair and mountain man's free-flowing beard -- is for his rock-star turn in Cameron Crowe's upcoming film about an American band circa 1973. Meanwhile, Lee will be on-screen this fall as a demon named Azrael in Kevin Smith's controversial religious satire Dogma, which stars Alanis Morissette as God, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as genital-free renegade angels and Chris Rock as a troublemaking disciple. "I don't see it as controversial," Lee says. "It's a Kevin Smith movie, with his fast, witty dialogue. I'll work with Kevin Smith for the rest of my life. That's my position on it." Acting, according to Lee, turns out to be a lot like professional skateboarding. "The more you do it, the more confidence you get. Then you're controlling it, instead of it controlling you." That goes for choosing projects as well. Lee says he'll try anything, except for certain stuff he's offered all the time. "My agent knows I'd rather not work than do any of the Gen-X-kids-on-the-edge movies. You know: teenybopper mayhem, two guys in a car full of diamonds, on the road, and they pick up a waitress or a stripper and blah, blah, blah. I'd rather work for established directors who are at least trying to say something." --Joshua Mooney The official site for Jason's new movie, Mumford is now up and running! Not too much on it right now, hopefully they'll add some more pics, etc. It arrives in theaters Sept. 24th. The Chasing Amy:Special Edition DVD is now available for pre-order at the Ontario based Digital Video Depot! UPDATE - JULY 29TH, 1999 Got some DVD news today. The Mallrats:Special Edition DVD has been bumped back to August 10th for a release date in Canada. I shoulda just ordered a copy from the States! The Canadian DVD User's Group reports that Alliance/Mirimax will release the Chasing Amy:Special Edition DVD in Canada on September 28th! The disc will feature deleted scenes and will be 16x9 enhanced. This comes as quite a surprise, we haven't really heard much about this disc up until now. UPDATE - JULY 27TH, 1999 The trailer for Jason's next movie
Mumford is now online. Lee plays one of the patients of a fake shrink. The
flick is due in theatres sometime this Fall. The Mallrats:Special Edition DVD is supposed to be released in Canada today, we'll have to wait and see if it actually arrives. UPDATE - JULY 22ND, 1999 I got some top secret info on the new Cameron Crowe flick and Jason's role in the movie!! The character Jason is playing is named Jeff Bebe (BeeBee), he is the lead singer of a fictional 70's band "Stillwater". Jason's character does not play an instrument in the band (he just sings), but all off the vocals are being done by a studio musician and Jason will lip sync. For the movie Jay has long straight hair, mostly his own, but with some fake hair to extend the length, so it kinda looks like Bob Seger's hair did back in the 70's. He also has a full beard for the flick. The songs were written by Nancy Wilson from "Heart" (she's married to Cameron Crowe) and Peter Frampton. Frampton is also in the movie, he playing a roadie named Reg. That's all the info i've got for now, keep checking back for updates. You heard it here first! UPDATE - JULY 20TH, 1999 Mallrats:Special Edition DVD is released in the U.S. today. Should be out in Canada in a week or two (I hope). Clerks arrived on shelves here today though, so that should hold me over. UPDATE - JUNE 15TH, 1999 Enemy of the State is released on video and DVD today! Finally!! Here are the Jason Lee sk8 pics i've been talking about! UPDATE - JUNE 9TH, 1999
UPDATE - JUNE 2ND, 1999 More info on the new Cameron Crowe film...a little article over at Mr. Showbiz gives you an overview of what the film will be about. Jason is not mentioned in the article, but we know he's in it so check it out! - Crowe's Rock Cronicle. Finally found my old Jason Lee skate pics!! As soon as I get them scanned they will be posted, so keep checkin back. You gotta see these...classic. UPDATE - MAY 12TH, 1999 Kevin Smith had a little bit to say over at the View Askew MB about Jason's role in the next Cameron Crowe film: Talk to Lee a few weeks ago, who - as most of you know by now - is doing Cameron Crowe's next flick (which is still untitled). He's having a blast, getting ready to play the lead singer in the fictional band in the flick. He said he's been rehearsing with Peter Frampton for a few weeks to get ready for the part, but doesn't think he'll be singing his own songs. I expect great things from this flick. I can't think of a better pairing: Lee and Crowe. Renews a brother's faith in Hollywood. Sound's cool to me! As soon as more info about this flick becomes available, i'll throw it up on the page. UPDATE - MAY 3RD, 1999 Dogma will be premiering at Cannes! The film will be presented May 21st at 12:15am in the Auditorium Lumiere. Dogma is an Official Selection, but will not be competing at the festival. Jason plays a demon named Azrael in the film. I CAN'T WAIT to see this movie!! Check out News Askew's Dogma:Rumor Control for more info on the film. It's been confirmed that Jason will be taking a role in Cameron Crowe's next film. He will play a principle part in the yet untitled project. Crowe has done some pretty good movies in the past, including Jerry Maguire, Singles, Say Anything and Fast Times at Ridgemont high. Should be a great flick!
Check out the Independent Spirit Awards web site for more pics and info about the event. UPDATE - MARCH 10TH, 1999 Most of the pictures have finally been added to the site. I still have a bunch of various and sk8 pics that will be added at a later date, so keep checkin back. UPDATE - FEBRUARY 5TH, 1999 NOW IN THEATRES!
