It is important to include references to the sources from which you
obtained information for your research assignments. A bibliography
or list of works consulted is generally included at the end of your research
assignment. That is the list of books, Internet sites (URL's), magazines
and other sources from which you obtained information. If there are
certain phrases, sentences,or paragraphs that you wish to copy word for
word, the original author of this information must be given credit for
these original thoughts. This is done in your footnotes at the bottom
of the page or, more preferably, endnotes at the end of the research paper.
There are a number of style manuals whish show the exact way in which these
references are to be written. Different subjects and different teachers
have preferences for particular style manual. Find out which style
manual your teacher expects you to use.

Lee, I.
(2002). A Research Guide for
Students
This site contains the necessary tools for students to conduct research
and to present their findings. It has directions about formatting a research
paper, how to write endnotes or footnotes or write parenthical references,
and how not to plagiarize. It includes guides for MLA and APA as well as
other style manuals. APA is now in its 5th edition. This edition
differs considerably in its directions from the 4th edition.
Lee has links to both the 4th and the 5th, as some university departments
and journals still follow the 4th. Please not which edition you are using
when APA guides.
