Storyspace is a hypertext writing software program that allows students to write and use pictures, video, and sound in their work. Students' work is linked and networked amongst a group of users. This work can be viewed through a graphics programs that physically shows the hypertext structures and how they are connected or linked. Students can quickly obtain multiple views and follow the link structures that they created. The editing of links and writing spaces can be reorganized and moved to establish new connections. What students learn and how they organize this information is under their control.
Storyspace engages students into creating dynamic non-linear hierachial
structures (Storyspace, 2002). The unique and powerful Storyspace
map shows each hypertext writing space and how it is linked. All writers
can add, link, and reorganize by moving writing spaces on the map.
It is this feature that motivates students creative exploration and offers
them flexibility in this learning environment (Storyspace, 2002).
Often students are embarrassed or are uncomfortable when presenting their
thoughts to peers, yet this environment is safe and non-comfrontational
for them to share their ideas and write openly and challenge other student's
ideas (Storyspace, 2002).
