The Fantasy Field Trip Society (FFTS) is a non-profit society, providing Live Action Role Playing (LARP) to our members since 1982. We schedule six to eight events each year, two of which are three-day-long events. All of our events are held on public parkland, land owned by FFTS members, or land made available to us by Scouts Canada, all located within or nearby Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Participating in a FFTS event is very different than playing a tabletop Role Playing Game (RPG). In your conventional RPG there is very little in the way of props to excite the imagination. Whereas in a FFTS game, you the player, stride into the game in full costume, girded with weapons and armor, or robes and amulets. There is also a significant difference in having the Game Master (GM) of a tabletop RPG tell you what the Troll says to you than to have that very big ugly green warty troll brandishing a spiked club demand a toll for crossing HIS bridge, stand right in front of you.

FFTS has an extensive Prop department full of costuming, armor and weapons available for our members use in game. From Warrior to Dragon, Pirate to Samurai, Jedi Knight to Beholder, our props department can help to outfit you.

Combat in FFTS is turn-based with referee's determining the success of your actions through the rolling of a twenty sided die (D20). All FFTS weapons are non-metal props and members do not actually `Hit' anyone with these weapons. No contact of your weapon with another player is allowable except for a photo opportunity. Movement in combat is done in `paces', each approximately 1 meter in distance, the amount of `paces' you have to move is determined during character generation.

Each year in the end of May, members of FFTS volunteer their time to participate in a game for the benefit of Scouts Canada. This game, held at Camp Harris, has the FFTS members slated as `single monsters' doing battle against teams of Scouts. FFTS is proud to participate with Scouts Canada and we thoroughly enjoy role playing with the 200+ scouts each year.

To be a member of the FFTS you must be at least 16 years of age. Many of our members have been in the society for 15 years or more. While the society is pre-dominantly male (approximately 75%), there are many valued female members, holding positions from veteran Game Masters to memberships on the Board of Directors.

If you would like to join, please fill out our form. If you would like to learn more about the FFTS please contact the society.
